Top Hip-Hop Albums of 2016

2016 was a great year for hip-hop. There are countless great artists who put out some of their best albums this year. However, there are a few albums that stood out among them. Here’s our top 5 albums of 2016:

5.)    21 Savage: Savage Modebest rap albums 2016-savage mode.jpeg

Many people are going to disagree with the decision to place 21 Savage’s album, Savage Mode, in the top 5. However it’s honestly a lit album. The album was produced by Metro Boomin, meaning almost every song had a fresh beat. Now, if you’re looking for a meaningful album that tells a story, this one’s not for your, but if you’re looking for a fresh album to bump to and to blast in your car, then this album’s perfect. Hit singles such as X, Ocean Drive, and No Heart are just a few of the catchy and aggressive songs in this album. A great album and an 8/10.

4.)    Travis Scott: Birds in the Trap Sing McKnightbest-rap-albums-2016-birds-in-the-trap-sing-mcknight

Travis Scott’s second full studio album, Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight, was just as fresh as the first. The album contains hit songs like Gosebumps and Pick Up the Phone. It features artists such as Kanye West, Quavo, and more. Overall, a solid album in Travis Scott’s style. An 8/10.

3.)    Kanye West: The Life of Pablobest-rap-albums-2016-town-hall-life-of-pablo

Kanye did it again. The Life of Pablo is yet another great album by Yeezy. The album is humorous and meaningful with nice beats. Songs like Wolves, Real Friends, and No More Parties in LA are songs which go down as some of Kanye’s best songs and some of the best hip-hop songs of the century. Overall, an 8.5/10

2.)    Chance the Rapper: Coloring Book 3best-rap-albums-2016-coloring-book-3

Is Coloring Book 3 a great album? The answer is yeah, yeah, yeah (if you didn’t understand that joke, go listen to the album). Coloring Book 3 fits Chance the Rapper’s style perfectly. All of the songs have great beats and catchy lyrics. Some of the best songs in the album, like Angels, All We Got, and No Problem are fresh songs which will be on my workout playlist forever. The album features greats like Kanye West, Lil Wayne, and 2 Chainz, among others. All together, a 9/10.

1.)    J. Cole: 4 Your Eyez Onlybest-rap-albums-2016-4-your-eyez-only

The best album of the year is 4 Your Eyez Only by J. Cole. This is easily the most meaningful album of the year and one of the most meaningful of all time. The album focuses on the hardships of life in the inner city and how that can affect one’s future. Again without features, J. Cole delivered. This is a stellar album– J. Cole’s best. Easily the top spot on our list and a 10/10.

  1. J. Cole’s Album IS AMAZING! We needed Cole this year to bring some meaning to hip hop this year. I don’t get the big deal with Coloring Book tho, I listened to it and , his rap style just does nothing for me. I think Ye’s album is a close second instead #WeOnAUltralightBeam AHHHHHH! : ) that song tho… #MyEverything
